PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Description:

Prayer Shawl Ministry touches lives with encouragement or comfort. The gift of a handmade prayer shawl or lap throw can provide a tangible hug. Our motto is “Surrounded with Prayer.” Participating in Prayer Shawl Ministry can provide moments of contemplative prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to
guide you.

Participation:

Our members’ skills (for knitting and/or crocheting) vary from beginner to advanced levels. As a member, your attendance at meetings is optional, but we often share valuable information and enjoy sharing ideas at our monthly meetings. There are no quotas or deadlines for completing prayer shawls. Also one-on-one lessons to learn to
knit or crochet can be arranged at selected times.

Meetings:

All are welcome and do not need to be a parishioner at St. Francis. We meet monthly on the second Wednesday, from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the All Saints Room. There is time for a devotional, blessing and distributing shawls, and to chat and knit or crochet.

Guidelines for Shawls:

Our prayer shawls are either knitted or crocheted. Choose a yarn which is non-allergenic. We typically use Lion Brand Homespun (not Homespun Thick and Quick). Our ministry is partially funded by a grant from St. Francis to purchase some supplies.

Copies of our ministry’s favorite
prayer shawl patterns are available upon request.
