Grief Recovery Support

Ministry Description:

St. Francis of Assisi Parish is using “GriefShare” to uplift and encourage those who have experienced the death of a loved one. “GriefShare” is a nationally recognized grief recovery program, which uses videos, group discussions and workbooks to lead participants through the grieving process. Groups are guided by caring facilitators who have rebuilt their own  lives following the death of a loved one and who are trained to listen to the stories of the participants who are learning skills for coping with loss.

Activities & Events:

“GriefShare” has several different programs. Loss of a Spouse and Surviving the Holidays are stand alone two-hour programs. From Mourning to Joy is a 13-week series which meets for two hours each week. All have the same format with a video presentation, sharing time and a workbook with follow-up activities.

Facilitators are encouraged to sit in on programs prior to volunteering. A two-hour training session is required.

Time Commitment:

Time commitments vary depending on the program and the role of the   volunteer. Each meeting requires set up, preparation and reflection. We have facilitators and support staff for each session. Support staff help set up, take attendance, interact with participants, help with snacks and clean up. Facilitators for the 13 weeks need to prepare for the sessions by pre-viewing the videos, praying together, and organizing the agenda for each meeting. Although we encourage facilitators to attend all sessions, normally, we can arrange for coverage if a conflict arises.
