Confirmation

“But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1: 8

For “by the Sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1285)

Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit — his actions, his gifts, and his biddings — in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of the Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. ” CCC 1309

Immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation emphasizes these two elements: “a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit” and “awakening a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ” through the retreat or camp experience and the XLT’s + Fireside Chats.

The retreat/camp experience is outsourced to Damascus/Catholic Youth Summer Camp (Columbus, OH) & to Life Teen’s EDGE Camp at Hidden Lake (Dahlonega, GA). These two programs are the premiere experience for providing Catholic youth a transformational encounter with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Please contact Christen for information about: Scholarship money available for camp/retreats as needed; Limited space available for parents to attend EDGE Camp or Damascus Retreat

Fireside Chats provide a space for the Confirmandi & their sponsor (or parent/journey partner) to participate in an activity, hear a talk tied to Confirmation/Holy Spirit, and have in-depth faith conversations to break open the talk. We will provide a meal before transition into XLT, a time of praise & worship before the Blessed Sacrament in Eucharistic Adoration, as well as a short talk from a speaker to provide guidance and reflection during the Holy Hour.
