Celebrating First Reconciliation First Communion

Children need to be baptized, at least 7 years old and in the second grade in order to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Sacramental Faith Formation is a separate program and is not a part of the regular faith formation process (religious education classes).  All children wishing to celebrate First Reconciliation or First Communion must be enrolled in a Faith Formation program. Children are encouraged to attend Sunday Mass weekly, as well as Holydays of Obligation.

The 2016-2017 Sacrament Information Sheet must be filled out and returned to the Faith Formation Office no later than January 9, 2017.         CLICK HERE for the form.

Sunday, January 29, 2017, 12:30-3:30 p.m. in Friendship Hall

For second graders and all children receiving First Communion in 2017 and their parents. “The Gift of Reconciliation” booklet is to be completed and turned in at the retreat. Fr. Tom will explain to just the parents how to prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation while the children participate in other activities geared towards preparation for Reconciliation.  Three examples of typical confessions will be presented and discussed with the parents. “The Gift of Eucharist” booklet is distributed to families at this retreat.  A simple lunch will be served.

First Reconciliation Celebrations  (in Church)
Wednesday                 February 1, 2017       4:30 p.m.
Saturday                      February 4, 2017       10:00 a.m.

Children are expected to prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving First Communion.  We want every child to have a parent present to participate in the prayer service and present their child to Fr. Tom Schmidt or a visiting priest for Reconciliation.

PLEASE NOTE:  Sunday classes do not lend themselves to celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation since the pastor will be preparing for Sunday liturgy. Sunday Grade 2 students and their parents are invited to attend with their parents either on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. or Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10 a.m.
