Our group’s motto is “surrounded with prayer.”

Prayer shawl ministry is part of St. Francis Social Action Commission.

Members create and help distribute knitted or crocheted prayer shawls. to offer comfort to others because of illness, bereavement, transitional life situations, or for recognizing/encouraging leaders in parish ministries. Since 2007, we have presented more than 800 shawls to individuals. A parish “outreach” grant provides funds to purchase some supplies.

We have basic guidelines (sizes, shapes, types of yarns) for knitting or crocheting prayer shawls. Copies of our guidelines, as well as some basic patterns are available upon request.

Time Commitment:

Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesdays, in the morning. Attendance is encouraged, but not required to participate.

We meet at church to pray, discuss projects, share ideas about knitting or crocheting patterns/techniques. In addition, we enjoy the friendships which evolve while participating in this ministry which tangibly touches lives = “a hug from Jesus.” Members complete prayer shawls at home or in a variety of other venues. There is no quota for the number of shawls a member chooses to make.

Helpful attributes:

With a commitment to prayer, participants are willing to knit or crochet several prayer shawls during the year. Members are willing to share ideas about supporting this ministry.
