Liturgy of the Word with Children

Purpose:

Liturgy of the Word with Children is a ministry which strives to bring the Word of God and introduce the liturgical calendar to children in the parish, ages 3 through Grade 3. Liturgy of the Word with Children has been cancelled through the summer of 2020.  Until then all families are invited to watch “Mustard Seed” by Jacob for the reflection of the weekend’s Gospel.

Ministry Times (when the schedule resumes):

During the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses, grades 1-3 and children ages 3-5 are invited to follow the prayer leader for music, prayer, readings and a Gospel reflection prepared especially for them. The children are dismissed from the congregation to hear the Gospel proclaimed on their own level. They are given the opportunity to pray and share the Word of God with their peers. After the homily, the children are escorted back to rejoin their families for Liturgy of the Eucharist.    Dates that Liturgy of the Word with Children will NOT meet will be posted as soon as the schedule resumes.

Ministry Opportunities:

Ministry opportunities available are presiders, presider assistants or musicians.  Ministers lead or assist with prayer and reflections on the Sunday Readings and Gospel.  They also have the opportunity to discuss the liturgical calendar and present the Creed and petitions.
Training is available for those interested. Available training will be offered to those interested.  Adult ministers who work with children are trained under the Decree on Child Protection of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  This includes a background check via the internet and attend a SafeParish Training.

Helpful Attributes for Ministers:

Along with a warm welcoming smile and gentle disposition, a willingness to prayerfully reflect on Scripture and share your faith with the children.
